The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Boston, known as DBSA Boston and formerly MDDA-Boston, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-run peer support organization based in Belmont, Massachusetts, dedicated to helping individuals living with depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders lead healthy, dignified, and fully supported lives in the Greater Boston community and beyond. With a membership of over 300 individuals and a program offering that includes more than seventy peer-led support groups every month spanning online Zoom sessions and in-person gatherings in Belmont and Downtown Boston, DBSA Boston is one of the largest and most active mental health peer support organizations in New England, providing a safe, secure, and judgment-free space where people affected by mood disorders and their family members and friends can share experiences, offer mutual care, and build the kind of peer connection that forms an essential pillar of any meaningful mental health wellness strategy.

Beyond its core peer support group programming, DBSA Boston delivers a richly varied calendar of mental health community activities including a monthly speakers series on the first Tuesday of every month featuring mental health professionals and community members who share lived experiences with mood disorders, a mindfulness practice group open and free to all, a music and poetry open mic, a song circle, NAMIWalks participation, and a regular newsletter, the Polars’ Express, that keeps the DBSA Boston community informed, connected, and engaged throughout the year. Rooted in the belief that knowledge of biologically-based illnesses like depression and bipolar disorder empowers individuals to better manage their own mental health, and that no one should have to navigate a mood disorder alone, DBSA Boston has built a welcoming, peer-centered community where over one hundred members gather every Wednesday evening to support one another through every stage of the mental health journey.
